Withdrawal Procedures

All National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) applicants who receive a State of Florida fee subsidy must notify NBPTS, DOE and their district immediately of withdrawal from the NBPTS certification program. In addition, the applicant forfeits the non-refundable $250 initial fee payment to the NBPTS and shall repay the State of Florida the amount of the fee subsidy paid by the State on their behalf that will not be refunded by NBPTS. Included in the portfolio package is a NBPTS withdrawal form or it may be downloaded via nbpts.org. In the event of withdrawal, copies of this form should be sent to NBPTS, DOE (along with the required repayment amount), and the district.

The table below provides specific information regarding repayment amounts. Please make checks/money orders payable to the Florida Department of Education, write “DHETP” on the payment, and mail to the following address:

Florida Department of Education
Office of the Comptroller
325 W. Gaines St., Suite 914
Tallahassee, FL 32399

Conditions Amount Due to State of Florida
Withdrawal from the NBPTS certification process before the portfolio due date (Mar. 31) $250
Withdrawal from the NBPTS certification process after the portfolio due date $2250

Failure to teach in a Florida public school the year immediately following completion of the process $2250
