Fee Subsidy

Each eligible candidate receives a fee subsidy equal to 90% of the NBPTS application fee. The candidate is responsible for paying the remaining 10% of the fee and the $65 application processing fee. To receive a fee subsidy, you must apply between June 1st and September 30th.

Each of the following steps must be completed to apply for funds through the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program:

  1. Visit the NBPTS website, www.nbpts.org
  2. Pay the $65 application processing fee
  3. Complete the NBPTS online application
  4. Pay online 10% of the $2500 NBPTS application fee, or $250
  5. From the NBPTS site, click the link to the Florida Department of Education promissory note; complete and submit the form
  6. Submit all required documentation to the district DHETP contact by the district’s application deadline.

PLEASE NOTE: All above application steps must be completed by the state deadline of September 30, 2007.

By submitting the Florida promissory note, a candidate agrees to the following:

  • To complete the NBPTS certification process for the current application year and to adhere to all program guidelines and timelines; or, to completely withdraw from the process by March 31, 2007;
  • To pay online the non-refundable $65 application processing fee and the non-refundable portion of the initial fee that the candidate is responsible for paying;
  • In the event of withdrawal from the process, to pay all applicable withdrawal fees; this includes all reasonable attorney’s fees for trials and all appeals and other costs and charges that are necessary for the collection of any unpaid fees;
  • To submit a completed portfolio by the portfolio deadline and to complete all assessment exercises by the assessment center deadline;
  • To remain a full-time classroom teacher in a Florida public school for one year following completion of the program.
