Background
The responsibility of Florida's Department
of Education is to assist school districts, schools,
and families in providing an education for all students,
as well as to assist school districts in understanding
and implementing the laws. The purpose of the revised
ESE rules is to ensure that the Florida State Board
of Education’s rules reflect the federal regulations
that operationally define the IDEA.
ESE Revised Rules
After four years of rule development activities, including
four sets of statewide public rule development workshops,
meetings with advocacy groups, receipt and review of
comments, and presentations at local and statewide meetings,
twelve ESE rules were submitted to the State Board of
Education and approved on March 16, 2004.
