Statewide Continuing Education and Inservice for Teaching Students with Developmental Disabilities
Section 1012.582, Florida Statutes (F.S.), Continuing education and inservice training for teaching students with developmental disabilities, requires that recommendations to incorporate instruction into continuing education/inservice training for instructional personnel regarding autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Down syndrome, and other developmental disabilities must be provided beginning with the 2010-2011 school year.
To assist instructional personnel in the use of available state and local resources, aligned with the provisions of s. 1012.582, F.S., a comprehensive resource list was developed to identify current continuing education and inservice programs. This resource list is organized by topic area and includes a title and description, estimated duration or length, and contact information for all available trainings in the following areas:
- Early identification of, and intervention for, students who have autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, or other developmental disabilities
- Curriculum planning, curricular and instructional modifications, adaptations, and specialized strategies and techniques
- Use of positive behavioral supports to deescalate problem behaviors
- Appropriate use of manual physical restraint and seclusion techniques
