Florida Department of Community Affairs
This site includes links to technical documents to assist school districts and local governments meet minimum state requirements for linking public school facility plans with community land use plans and school concurrency. The website also includes links to sample plans from pilot communities.

American Clearinghouse on Educational Facilities (ACEF)
Continuing with the multi-year history of the educational facility clearinghouse initiative, the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools is pleased to announce the launch of the American Clearinghouse on Educational Facilities (ACEF) website. The ACEF website, provides information, training, and assistance regarding all phases of educational facility building and operation. Specifically, the website focuses on planning, design, construction, improvement, maintenance, financing, and operation of facilities. In addition, the website will house an online, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to research related to educational facilities.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: Smart Growth and Schools
This site include many helpful links to documents that will help community planners and educational facilities planners apply the principles of smart growth.

National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities: Smart Growth and Schools
This site includes a resource list of links, books, journal articles, and other documents examining schools in relation to issues of planning and community development, economic impact, conservation of open spaces, and smart growth vs. sprawl.

Coalition for Community Schools
This site is hosted by the Coalition for Community Schools, an alliance of national, state and local organizations in education K-16, youth development, community planning and development, family support, health and human services, government and philanthropy as well as national, state and local community school networks. The Coalition advocates for community schools as the vehicle for strengthening schools, families and communities so that together they can improve student learning.

Smart Growth America: Smart Schools Initiative and School Planning
These sites are hosted by Smart Growth America. The Smart Schools Initiative is a multi-partner, national effort designed to bridge the movements for education equity and for smart growth. It aims to build healthier, more sustainable communities, especially for our most vulnerable children. Founding partners include the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the Public Education Network, and Smart Growth America.

Funder’s Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities
The Network is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization that exists to inspire, strengthen and expand philanthropic leadership and funders’ abilities to support organizations working to improve communities through better development decisions and growth policies. The link to the Network’s translation paper describes how the trend toward building new schools on large sites far from existing development centers, called “school sprawl” can have far-reaching impacts on school children, school districts and the larger community.

Safe Ways to School
This site is hosted by the University of Florida and supported by the Florida Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School Program. The program provides grants for infrastructure improvements and education and enforcement programs.
