Online Safety in Existing Education Facilities Course Registration

Description: Training of school district and fire safety inspectors in the performance of annual fire safety, casualty safety, and sanitation inspections in accordance with Florida Fire Prevention Code (SFM Rule 69A-58) and Department of Education State Requirements for Educational Facilities (SREF).

  • Course 1: SREF/69A-58 - 3 days Fire safety, casualty safety, sanitation, and accessibility in existing schools. Classroom (Powerpoint presentation) analysis of codes, and actual problems inherent in maintaining safety in existing school buildings. Includes a field inspection of a local facility.

    • 24 SFM approved recertification hours FSFC 0317. Approval Number 8080 for both Fire Safety Inspectors and Special Fire Safety Inspectors.
      Course also provides 18 DBPR approved Continuing Education Hours for registered architects. Approval Number AR.01.575


  • Course 2: SREF/69A-58 - 2 days Maintaining fire safety in existing school buildings. Classroom (Powerpoint presentation) analysis of codes and actual problems inherent in maintaining safety in existing school buildings. For local fire control authorities/inspectors to familiarize them with SFM Rule 69A-58 and SREF requirements as they apply to their annual fire inspections of existing educational facilities. Open to district personnel and others.
    16 SFM approved recertification hours. Approval Number 3016 for both Fire Safety Inspectors and Special Fire Safety Inspectors. Course also provides 16 DBPR approved Continuing Education Hours for registered architects. Approval Number AR.01.1319.


  • Course 3: Life Safety Awareness - 8 hours or 4 hours For district maintenance and safety personnel and design professionals to familiarize them with common day-to-day violations of safety, with an emphasis on fire safety.


  • Course 4: Life Safety Awareness - Administrators - 2 hours or 4 hours, optional
    A primer to educate principals and assistant principals on basic code requirements and common building-user violations that can compromise the safety of their building(s).
