The Data Network team is dedicated to providing several important lower layer services that is utilized by every employee of the Department of Education on an everyday basis. This team is led by Marc Chin and he is supported by Keith Knotts and Tommy Mills. Some of the responsibilities of this team include:

  • Physical network support services – This responsibility includes recommending, installing, and maintaining data communications equipment for the entire department. This equipment includes routers, switches, wireless access points, uninterruptible power supplies, and any management software needed to maintain the viability of the network.
  • Design, installation and maintenance of the department’s Ethernet LAN - Connections to our network are currently available in the Turlington building, the Office of Student Financial Aid and the Education warehouse. This includes both copper and fiber telecommunications wiring infrastructures and electronic components.
  • Maintenance of Diagrams – This includes building blueprints (that include voice/data outlet locations), network diagrams, comprehensive wiring, and phone system databases.
  • Ordering, monitoring, and troubleshooting dedicated data circuits and connections for the Ethernet network.
  • Staff also works with various sections with site inspecting any wiring moves, additions, or changes.
  • Account Security – Maintaining proper access level permissions to the data resources of the Department.
