Florida Department of Education, Office of Early Learning VPK Fact Sheet New!

The VPK Fact Sheet is published monthly to highlight recent achievements in Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Program. It includes the number of children currently enrolled in the VPK program, number and percentage of teachers taking and completing DOE-approved on-line and instructor led courses and updates on coming additions to our online resources.

Collaborative Agency Directory: Frequently Asked Questions for AWI, DCF and DOE New!

In collaboration with the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI), and the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Education, Office of Early Learning (DOE/OEL) has created this document with answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about VPK and related programs. The document includes names, telephone numbers and web sites for each agencies areas of responsibility.

2008-09 VPK Provider Kindergarten Readiness Rate New!

The method used to calculate the Voluntary Prekindergarten Readiness Rate is determined annually and approved by the State Board of Education via Rule 6A-1.099821, Florida Administrative Code. To gather public input on the methodology for calculating the 2008-09 VPK Provider Kindergarten Readiness Rate, we held eight Rule Development Workshops.

The Florida Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Standards (2008) describe skills that four-year-old children should know and be able to do by the end of their VPK experience. Fully recognizing parents as their child’s first teacher, this booklet is designed to help families create learning environments and opportunities for their children that are both developmentally appropriate and aligned to the VPK Education Standards.

Consistent with our goal to provide leadership and support to administer Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education program, we are pleased to provide detailed statistical information regarding the 2007-08 VPK Provider Kindergarten Readiness Rates.

The site has summary data by district and coalition, including the number of providers by provider and program type; student demographic data, English language learners, children who qualify for free or reduced lunch and students with disabilities, by provider type, program type and provider quartile.
