Kindergarten Teacher Survey New!

The “Kindergarten Teacher Survey” focuses on the transition from Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education programs to kindergarten and the coordination of preschool and kindergarten programs. The Office of Early Learning encourages all kindergarten teachers to take a moment to share your knowledge about the VPK to kindergarten transition with us by completing this survey. The purpose of the survey is to assess kindergarten teachers’ awareness of the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Program and their perception of its impact on the incoming kindergarten class of 2009-10. Results of 2009 Kindergarten Screening New!

Consistent with the Department of Education’s Next Generation Prekindergarten-20 Strategic Plan to strengthen foundation skills in reading and mathematics, we are pleased to provide you with the results of the 2009 screening of public school kindergarten students. These results are especially noteworthy given that 63-percent of Florida’s four-year-olds participated in the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Program in 2008-09.

Language and Vocabulary in the VPK Classroom New!

We are pleased to announce the availability of the Language and Vocabulary in the VPK Classroom course for all VPK teachers, assistants and directors. This online course is designed to help teachers integrate the use of implicit and explicit instructional strategies that support early language development in the VPK Classroom.

Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Teacher Toolkit: Mathematical Thinking folder New!

We are pleased to announce the availability of the Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Teacher Toolkit Mathematical Thinking folder, the second of five resource folders. This new online resource is available free to all VPK teachers, assistants and directors and is designed to support early learning in the VPK classroom. The information included in the folders aligns with the Florida VPK Education Standards and provides guidance that connects instructional needs with professional development.

Florida Department of Education, Office of Early Learning VPK Fact Sheet New!

The VPK Fact Sheet is published monthly to highlight recent achievements in Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Program. It includes the number of children currently enrolled in the VPK program, number and percentage of teachers taking and completing DOE-approved on-line and instructor led courses and updates on coming additions to our online resources.

Collaborative Agency Directory: Frequently Asked Questions for AWI, DCF and DOE New!

In collaboration with the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI), and the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Education, Office of Early Learning (DOE/OEL) has created this document with answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about VPK and related programs. The document includes names, telephone numbers and web sites for each agencies areas of responsibility.
