Air Indoor Resources - Mercury

Facility Management Equipment

Gauges and pressure-measuring devices found on large facility equipment such as boilers, which may have mercury floats, pumps and valves can remain as part of the equipment. However, upon replacement, it is recommended to exchange them with non-mercury alternatives (the manufacturer or your distributor should be able to help). Be extremely careful during change-out and do not leave any mercury-containing parts lying on desks, carts, or anywhere that they can be stolen or broken.

Thermostats containing mercury switches should be replaced with programmable, non-mercury digital thermostats to save money on your energy bill. If you leave mercury thermostats on the walls throughout your facility, be sure to put locking covers on them to prevent tampering or breakage.
