Community College System - Overview
There are 28 locally-governed public community colleges in the Florida Community College System. While governed by local boards, the colleges are coordinated under the jurisdiction of the State Board of Education. Administratively, the Chancellor of Community Colleges is the chief executive officer of the system, reporting to the Commissioner of Education who serves as the chief executive officer of Florida's K-20 System.
Policy of Florida's Community College System generates from activities of the State Board of Education (SBOE) and is authorized by the Florida Legislature. The SBOE meets monthly to discuss policy and consider and approve system decision items. Follow activities of the Board from the Florida Department of Education Web site at: http://www.fldoe.org.
