Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI)
Supplemental Academic Intervention (SAI) Funding
Dropout prevention and academic intervention programs are funded through
the Florida Education Finance Program (FEFP) and Supplemental Academic
Instruction categorical funds. School districts have flexibility in how
SAI funds may be expended as long as dollars are used to help students
gain at least a year of knowledge for each year in school and to help
students not be left behind. Supplemental instruction strategies may include,
but are not limited to
- modified curriculum
- reading instruction
- after-school instruction
- tutoring
- mentoring
- class size reduction
- extended school year
- intensive skills development in summer school and other methods to improve student achievement
The Supplemental Academic Instruction Staff Development Conference is a major statewide staff development conference hosted annually by the Department of Education, Bureau of School Safety and School Support. The SAI Conference provides program administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and other personnel who work with students at risk of academic failure an opportunity to receive the latest research-based information. Nationally known speakers and other clinic presenters provide various programs and strategies designed to enhance students academic success.

Supplemental Academic Instruction District Plans
School districts are asked to submit a plan to the Department of Education
that identifies the students to be served with SAI funds and the scope
of the supplemental academic instruction to be provided. Data from the
plans are compiled, analyzed, and included in the annual report to the
Legislature each spring.
Supplemental Academic Instruction Annual Report
is compiled by the Department of Education and provides information related
to Supplemental Academic Instruction Categorical Fund, the Dropout Prevention
and Academic Intervention Act, and the GED Exit Option Model.
