School Gardens
Parents and Volunteers
Many parents feel they are unable to help at their child’s school garden because they may not know their help is needed, work an 8-5 job, or they may feel that they lack the skills to help. Regardless of experience or time, parents and volunteers can be an integral part of the school garden!
- School Gardens and Parent Participation (PPT). A PowerPoint presentation with suggested roles and time commitments for potential volunteers.
- Setting Up and Running a School Garden - A Manual for Teachers, Parents, and Communities. (PDF) The manual is to assist teachers, parents and communities, drawing on classroom experiences from across the world. Tips include deciding what will be needed, how big the garden will be, how much time it will take, and how to look after 'sick' plants, as well as more complex topics such as integrated pest management.
