Summer Academy for Teachers of Health Education Content
The Florida Department of Education's Office of Healthy Schools is providing a Summer Academy (Academy) for Teachers of Health Education Content. This opportunity will be held at the University of Florida on July 18-20, 2012. The Academy is designed for educators responsible for delivering health education content in the schools (e.g., core curriculum classroom teachers, school nurses, guidance counselors, health education and physical education teachers).
In Florida, Comprehensive Health Education is required instruction K-12 per section 1003.42(n), Florida Statutes. The Academy offers hands-on instruction on the concepts and skills necessary to deliver Comprehensive Health Education, addresses Florida's Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Health Education and the newly adopted Common Core Standards. This professional development opportunity will increase the proficiency for teachers of all content areas to integrate health education into their specific subject area.
The cost of the Academy is $110.00 and includes lodging, meals, parking and the opportunity for a unique learning experience with other educators. Due to space limitations, the Academy will be limited to 125 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. More information can be found in the Academy Booklet (Word, 349KB).

Florida Healthy District Training website
The interactive training on this site will help you renew, refresh and reinvigorate your team’s efforts to improve the health and wellness of students and staff in your district. The material is based on lessons learned and strategies developed as part of the 2011 Healthy School District Training – Using the Coordinated School Health (CSH) Approach. It provides an opportunity for district wellness policy committees and School Health Advisory Committees (SHACs) to create a solid foundation to implement CSH and enhance their wellness efforts. This online training course offers quizzes and printable certificates for each training topic that is successfully completed. Each section is self-contained so that you may complete the training topics independent of each other. To complete all 4 sections will take approximately 1.5 – 3 hours depending on the user’s level of understanding. For more information, visit www.healthydistrict.com
