OrganWise Guys Project

The OrganWise Guys (OWG) Project is administered through the Florida Atlantic University in coordination with the Florida Department of Education's (DOE) Food and Nutrition Management Section and Office of Healthy Schools. The purpose of this project is to provide resources to school districts to promote healthy lifestyle habits through nutrition education by providing an opportunity for Food Service Professionals to become involved with nutrition education in their schools.

During the 2009-2010 school year, DOE partnered with the University of Florida, the Family Nutrition Program and six school districts to distribute 187 OWG Core Kits. Four regional workshop trainings were conducted in the participating school districts (Brevard, Broward, Flagler, Marion, Orange, and Putnam) for food service professionals and teachers from schools in these districts.

During the 2010-2011 school year, Food Service Directors were notified that OWG Foods of the Month Club (FoM) kits were available for school cafeterias. The 660 FoM Club kits were distributed to 30 school districts on a first come, first served basis.
