Assessment Materials

The Health Education Assessment Project (HEAP): HEAP assists teachers with the assessment of student performance in health education through the use of a variety of validated materials. HEAP’s materials are based on the National Health Education Standards on which Florida’s Health Education Standards are based.  The project involves online professional development, use of online validated assessment items, scoring rubrics, and other materials.  HEAP compliments whatever curriculum a district may be using, whether it is district developed or commercial.

Training is provided through public school districts or as a pre-conference to identified health education related statewide conferences. Currently, the Office of Healthy Schools is able to provide at no cost to the district: training materials, reimbursement for substitute teachers, travel reimbursement for pre-conference trainings which require travel outside of the district, a stipend for non-contact hour trainings, and 25-60 in-service points for teachers interested in completing an additional assignment.

For additional information, please contact Antionette Meeks, EdD, CHES, CAPP at or 850-245-0480.

The Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT): HECAT is a product of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The tool is designed to assist districts, schools, and teachers to determine the strengths of the curricula they are using for Health Education instruction with a focus on improving these curricula, developing new or improved curricula, or in the selection of commercially developed curricula to best meet local needs.
