You may also receive a refund if you register for the same test for two consecutive test administrations and pass the test at the first test administration. To receive a refund for the second administration (because you already passed the test), submit a written request and state in your letter the reason you are requesting a refund. The letter must be received at the FTCE-FELE Program office no later than 30 calendar days after the mailing of the score reports for the first administration that you passed.

Transfer of Registration After a Missed Test Date

If you fail to take, retake, or complete a test for which you are registered on a scheduled test date, no fees or charges will be refunded; however, there are two conditions under which your test registration may be transferred to a subsequent administration:

  1. Illness or injury of the examinee or a member of the examinee's immediate family that prevents the examinee from taking the test.

  2. Death of a member of the examinee's immediate family within 15 days before the test date.

The term immediate family is defined as the examinee's spouse and the grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren of both the examinee and the spouse.

To request a transfer, send the following information to the FTCE-FELE Program office:

  • A letter stating the reason you were prevented from taking the test.

  • In the case of illness or injury, a signed letter from a medical doctor, physician's assistant, or nurse practictioner on official letterhead stationery attesting to the illness or injury. A "return to work" authorization letter is acceptable.

  • In the case of a death, a dated newspaper obituary or dated funeral home program stating your relationship to the deceased.

The letter and the documentation of illness, injury, or death, must be received in the FTCE/FELE Program office within 30 calendar days (including weekends and holidays) after the missed test date.
