Florida's LEP Students - 1996/97
|
State Summary of 1996/97 Data on Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students This data was compiled from the 1996/97 Annual Status report on the implementation of the 1990 League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) et al. v. State Board of Education Consent Decree produced by the Office of Academic Achievement through Language Acquisition (AALA) in April of 1998. This report provides data on current LEP students (LY or LN), former LEP students (LF), pending LEP students (LP), LEP students that have completed the two year follow up period (LZ) and on Non-LEP students (ZZ) for comparative purposes. All the data in this report is from the 1996/97 school year and includes data provided by the school districts through the Florida Department of Education Automated Student Information Data Base from Survey 3 (February 1997) and Survey 5 (August 1997). The State of Florida's LEP students come from 246 Different Countries of National Origin and Speak 171 Native Languages. The following 7 Countries account for 82% of the state's LEP population.
*'Other' (Country Code 'ZZ') are usually students born in the United States. In the future this will no longer be a viable code. The following 3 languages account for 94% of the state's LEP population
