Okaloosa County Teacher Recognized for Making STEM Fun

Okaloosa County Schools

Stacy Burlison

The Air Force Association (AFA) Hurlburt Chapter 398 recognized Baker High School educator Stacy Burlison as its 2013 High School Teacher of the Year for her efforts to inspire and educate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Burlison has taught for more than four years, focusing on middle and high school students. She creates entertaining ways to get her students interested in STEM-related subjects, including creating a murder mystery where students had to use their knowledge of physics to solve the case.

"She fully deserves this award," said Baker High School Principal Thomas Shipp. "She has logged many extra miles to serve our students who have interests in science, technology, engineering and math. She helps make learning fun."

The chapter, which supports STEM education, recently honored Burlison with a plaque, a one year AFA membership and a $250 donation.
