Santa Rosa County Elementary School Recognized as HealthierUS Challenge School
The Food Service Department of W.H. Rhodes Elementary School in Santa Rosa County has received the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Silver HealthierUS School Challenge award. The USDA established the HealthierUS School Challenge as a way to recognize exceptional elementary schools that are creating healthier school environments through innovative menu planning and the promotion of good nutrition and physical activity.
The objectives of the HealthierUS School Challenge are to recognize schools that take specific steps to improve their school nutrition programs, address childhood obesity, and encourage other schools to follow their lead. Each year, schools earn recognition based on four levels of superior performance, including Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Gold Award of Distinction.
Florida also has two other districts, Osceola County and Brevard County, who have HealthierUS Challenge award-winning schools. To learn more about the Challenge, visit the USDA Web site at http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/healthierus/index.html.
