Duval County Principal Named Arts Administrator of the Year

Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Principal, Jackie Cornelius has been selected as the 2009 Florida Network of Arts Administrators, Administrator of the Year.

Mrs. Cornelius received this award for her artistic vision and leadership in the field of arts education. Since 1988, she has been an integral part of Douglas Andersonís state and national success, first serving as its art director and vice principal before being named principal in 1996. Under her leadership, Douglas Anderson has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, a National Model School and a National Leader School by the U.S. Department of Education, as well as being listed by Newsweek magazine as one of the Best Academic High Schools in the country.

She has tirelessly spearheaded and supported numerous arts education projects both nationally and locally benefiting the students, school, its faculty and staff. Also, she has served with numerous art organizations such as the Jacksonville Theatre, the International Network of Performing and Visual Arts Schools, the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Symphony Education committee.
