Five Florida Schools Obtain Character Recognition

The State Schools of Character (SSOC) competition is a way for schools and districts in to receive recognition at the state level for exemplary character education programs.

Created in 2006 with a grant from the John Templeton Foundation, the SSOC program has increased the number of outstanding schools and districts sharing best practices, localized the mentoring network among educators, and identified exemplary state sites to serve as models.

In 2008, five Florida schools were designated as State Schools of Character. These schools were honored for their outstanding work in character education and invited to serve as models for other educators in that state. Every SSOC wins an award from its state sponsor and is given the opportunity to participate in the National Schools of Character (NSOC) competition.
