Florida Students Designated Regional Sunshine State Scholars in Mathematics and ScienceGraduating seniors from 10 high schools throughout the state have been designated as Regional Sunshine State Scholars in Mathematics and Science.
The Sunshine State Scholars Program was established in 1997 to recognize the achievement of Florida’s graduating seniors who have demonstrated excellence in both mathematics and science. Each Florida school district selected District Scholars to compete in regional competitions. Ninety-five Scholars competed on Jan. 7, 2009, in hopes of becoming one of the 10 Regional Scholars. The regional winners will travel to Tallahassee on March 8-9, 2009, to vie for the title Statewide Sunshine State Scholar in Mathematics and Science.
The Sunshine State Scholars Program is coordinated through the Florida Institute of Education at the University of North Florida, in partnership with the Florida Education Foundation. The program receives support from the Florida Department of Education Office of Mathematics and Science, the Florida Lottery, Florida mathematics and science teachers’ and supervisors’ organizations, corporations, and private individuals.
