Brain Bowl Regional Coach of the Year

For the second consecutive year Patricia Campbell, an English teacher at Lake-Sumter Community College, has been named the Brain Bowl Regional Coach of the Year for the East-Central Region. Campbell's coaching led her team to win the Brain Bowl regional competition, and then helped her team earn fifth place among 22 competitors in the Brain Bowl state tournament.

Brain Bowl Team members included Joshua Couch, Walter Guy, Danielle Nemeth, Steven Whittaker and captain Billie Taylor. Brian Rogers was the assistant coach.

Taylor received the Dave Elhert High Point Award with a total individual score of 880 for correctly answering the most toss-up questions attempted by tournament players.

Brain Bowl is similar to the television show Jeopardy. A team of four to six students answers questions in the categories of humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and mathematics. A team plays with four members at a time.

The East-Central Region includes Brevard Community College, Central Florida Community College, Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Santa Fe Community College and Seminole Community College.
