Seminole Community College Professor and Student Win State Awards
A Seminole Community College (SCC) professor and a student were named Teacher of the Year and Student of the Year by the Florida African American Educators Association (FAAEA). Dr. Heather Edwards, a mathematics professor at SCC, was chosen among finalists from more than a dozen colleges and universities in Florida. Edwards, a third year professor, teaches calculus, statistics and differential equations.
Carl Runyon, an Associate of Arts student, plans to graduate from SCC with a Science Merit diploma, which is awarded to students who complete eight science and math courses and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or higher in those courses.
The FAAEA awards are designed to applaud the advancements, accomplishments and successes of minority students, teachers, administrators and community leaders in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
