Jackson Middle Receives National Recognition For High Performance

Stonewall Jackson Middle School in Orlando has been selected as a National Demonstration Site for Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID). AVID is a fourth-grade through high school program that has turned thousands of underperforming students into confident, college-going scholars.

The school was selected through an application, screening and review process that included a site visit. Jackson Middle joins approximately 100 expected AVID National Demonstration Sites.

AVID National Demonstration Sites were initiated in 1993 with a $250,000 award from the Charles A. Dana Foundation of New York. As part of the AVID National Demonstration Sites Network, sites are expected to develop a model program with schoolwide participation, with AVIDís proven methodologies used throughout subject area classes to improve the performance of all students, but particularly students who are the least likely to attend four-year colleges. Adopted by more than 3,500 middle and high schools in 45 states and 15 countries, AVID serves more than 250,000 students.
