Lauren Lewis, a 2006 graduate of Haines City High, placed third nationally in the public speaking event. She competed against 47 other speakers from across the country. She is currently serving as the Florida FFA Area IV Vice President for the 2006-2007 school year before matriculating to Auburn University in August 2007. David Byrd, a teacher resource specialist in the school district's agriscience and natural resources department, was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree at the convention. The award is given to administrators advancing agricultural education and FFA through outstanding personal commitment.
