Student at Joan Walker Elementary Earns Space Camp Scholarship
Katie Ballantyne, a fifth grader at Joan Walker Elementary School, has been
selected to receive one of the 2006 United States Space Camp scholarships from
the Aerospace Education Foundation. She will participate in the Space Camp
experience in Huntsville, Alabama from July 17th through 19th!
The scholarship includes a three-day, 2-night stay at camp, three daily meals,
a flight suit with a name badge, mission patch, and Space Camp T-shirt. The
United States Space Camp scholarship is a national program that is awarded
to 30 students across the country. Fifteen hundred middle and elementary students
applied for the scholarship. Katie is the only student from Seminole County
to be invited to attend Space Camp, and her fellow classmates and school family
is proud of her.
Katie's teacher is Mary Jane Sardo who has exceptional skills in teaching
math and science curriculum. Katie and Mrs. Sardo will be recognized for their
hard work by the Joan Walker Elementary staff, Richard Ortega, the Vice President
of Aerospace Education for the State of Florida, and Tim Brock, the President
of Boeing on May 12, 2006 at 1:30 at Joan Walker Elementary School. Joan Walker
Elementary School is located at 3101 Snow Hill Road in Chuluota Florida.
