Plan History
The K-20 system of education in Florida is relatively new, and leads the nation in systemic change. Prior to voter adoption of a Constitutional Amendment in 1998, separate systems represented public schools, community colleges, and state universities. The 1998 Constitutional Amendment directing the establishment of an appointed, versus elected, State Board of Education and Commissioner of Education provided the opportunity for all of education to be viewed and implemented as a continuously-supportive K-20 system of education. Below are some decisions integral to today's current structure of Florida education:
