Office Units

Projects of the Office of Strategic Initiatives include:

The Office is assigned by the Commissioner of Education or the State Board of Education to initiate, activate or deploy specific priorities, including:
  • Access Task Force — lay board representing K-20 constituent groups and members who are appointed by the Chairpersons of the State Board of Education and the Board of Governors to explore, consider and recommend policies for meeting the growing demand for access to quality higher education in Florida by assessing current and expected capacity of public and private delivery system and institutions.
  • K-20 Education Strategic Plan — the Strategic Plan outlines the priority goals, outcomes and activities of the K-20 State Board of Education.
  • Sunshine Connections — online teacher resources created through a public/private partnership of the Florida Department of Education and Microsoft.

Units of the Office of Strategic Initiatives include:

The Office is responsible for oversight and management of several units within the Department of Education, including:
  • The Office of Articulation — the Articulation Coordinating Committee (chaired by Indian River Community College President Edwin Massey) represents local K-20 public and private practitioners and contributes to policies and functions of this office.
  • The Florida Center for Advising and Academic Support — administers FACTS.org, an online counseling and planning service for Florida students planning to attend a public or private postsecondary institution.
