2009 Florida School Breakfast Week Promotion
National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) was launched in 1989 to raise awareness of the availability of the School Breakfast Program to all children. The Florida Department of Education partners with the Florida School Nutrition Association, program sponsors, and other key groups to promote the benefits and importance of students eating breakfast through a state celebration modeled after the NSBW celebration in March. The Dairy Council of Florida in conjunction with the Florida Department of Education, Office of Food and Nutrition Management is committed to helping kids stay healthy by educating them about the importance of eating breakfast and being physically active. “Ready, Set, Go…Eat School Breakfast!” is the theme of Florida's third annual School Breakfast Week occurring September 14-18, 2009.
Studies show that students are more alert and perform better in class when they eat breakfast as they have a general increase in math grades and reading scores, increased attention levels, reduced school nurse visits, and improved behavior. Schools are encouraged to be involved with promotional events throughout the year to help improve and better prepare their students for academic performance. Eating breakfast can make a difference in a student's performance not only during a statewide test but every day of the year.
Ready, Set, Go...Jump!...Play!...Learn!...Eat School Breakfast! The possibilities are endless. By consuming a good breakfast each morning, students can GO and do anything! Please help us to encourage students to eat school breakfast and be healthy, fit, and ready to learn.
