Chancellor, Division of Florida Colleges
The Florida State Board of Education is accepting applications for the position of Chancellor, Division of Florida Colleges. The Florida College System is a national leader in the production of Associate degrees and represents one of the 14 states that have authorized community colleges to offer select, workforce-oriented baccalaureate degrees. The Florida College System is comprised of 28 colleges, serves almost 900,000 students, employs over 45,000 people, and has a fiscal year 2010-11 budget of approximately $1.9 billion. The Chancellor serves the Florida State Board of Education and the Commissioner of Education as the chief executive officer of the Florida College System within the K-20 education system and as governance officer and member of the state-level leadership team under the leadership of the Commissioner. The Chancellor also serves as a policy advocate for and liaison between the 28 members of the Council of Presidents, the Department of Education, and state government.
The successful candidate must possess significant demonstrated and proven effective leadership experience in public postsecondary education as well as an understanding of the comprehensive mission of community and state colleges. Evidence of experience in strategic planning, consensus building among diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to a collaborative approach on issues related to the Florida College System is expected. Applicants must have distinguished themselves in higher education policy, administration, scholarship, and management. Master's degree required; earned doctorate preferred.
