Entitlement/Noncompetitive Grants
Florida Legislation 1003.42 states that the following required instruction: “The history of African Americans, including the history of African peoples before the political conflicts that led to the development of slavery, the passage to America, the enslavement experience, abolition, and the contributions of African Americans to society.” It is the goal of the African American Task Force to ensure that African American History is being incorporated into all areas of curriculum. The primary purpose of the project is to provide funds to continue a partnership with the African American History Task Force (AAHTF) to improve student performance through student learning opportunities and teacher professional development.
Digital Divide “Bridging the Technology Gap” Program
Bridging the Technology Gap is a pilot project designated to assist families of low-income students (in grades 5 through 12) with purchasing discounted computers and internet access services. Once in place, the proposed pilot will provide professional development for parents and students on the use of the particular technologies that are provided. The pilot is also expected to identify workable strategies and best practices as relates to technical training and parent /student notification of opportunity. This will be a developmental type project which seeks to discover effective ways to provide essential computers and internet access services to the most needy student populations in the State.Funding for the pilot is being provided by the Florida Legislature under Specific Appropriation 116. The Miami-DadeCountySchool District is the anticipated point of coordination for the pilot.
Florida Council on Economic Education
The primary purpose of the project is to improve student performance by providing technical assistance to districts in implementing the Free enterprise and consumer Education Act of 1975 as amended in 1995, the RAISE Act of 1983 as amended in 1996; The Sunshine State Standards, and the Florida School Code as amended in 2002. The priorities of the project include: assisting schools in meeting FCAT requirements; providing professional development workshops/activities; assisting school districts in the implementation of economic education; entrepreneurship and financial literacy programs; appropriate resource development and dissemination; and promoting free enterprise, financial literacy and economic education in Florida’s public school districts.
SUNLINK
SUNLINK is a state database of school library media center holdings in Florida's K-12 public schools. It is designed to promote resource sharing among public schools.
SUNLINK can be searched by author, title, or subject as well as full Boolean searching by keyword, location, format or language of the material. Approximately 25% of the books in the database also have searchable reading level and interest level information.
Funded by the Florida legislature, SUNLINK is an initiative of the School Library Media Services of the Department of Education. The project is administered by the SUNLINK Project Office at the University of Central Florida.
Arts for a Complete Education
Arts for a Complete Education/Florida Alliance for Arts Education (ACE/FAAE) is a statewide alliance of more than 30 arts and arts education associations and 22 county coalitions working in partnership with local arts agencies and community representatives to promote and improve education in and through the arts. Through the ACE grant, FAAE acts as a catalyst for advancing the quality of student instruction in arts education programs. It identifies needs and opportunities, provides teacher training and recognition programs, facilitates networking opportunities, and disseminates resources to improve student achievement through the arts.Programs are designed to promote and improve the arts in Florida, with the goal of providing every child in every school a well-rounded education that includes a comprehensive, sequential, and high-quality program of arts instruction. The programs of ACE link schools and community resources in vital ways which enhance student achievement and well-being.
In 2006-2007, the work of ACE/FAAE continues to center its programs around Arts Education: Part of the Solution, focusing on five important areas:
- "Arts Achieve!" Model Schools Project
- Arts Assessment and Accountability
- Coalitions and Partnerships in the Arts
- Public Awareness of Arts Education
- Leadership Development in the Arts

Department of Health (DOH) Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP)
The Department of Health CSHP is the counterpart to the Department of Education CSHP. This grant is in compliance with the agreement with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (the CSHP funding source) to provide funds for the DOH CSHP project.
DOH Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)
This grant is given to the Department of Health’s (DOH) Epidemiology to conduct the Youth Risk Behavior Survey throughout the State of Florida. DOH disseminates, collects, and prepares a report from the survey results.
University of North Florida: Annual Bullying Prevention Conference
This project supports Florida’s 2nd Annual Bullying Prevention Conference sponsored by the University of North Florida’s Safe, Disciplined, and Drug-Free Schools.
Working on Gifted Issues (WOGI)
WOGI is a state project funded through the legislature and the Department of Education to provide technical assistance to regional programs for gifted and district coordinators. The Project was initiated in 1996 as a collaboration between the DOE and a designated university, currently the University of North Florida.
Initiatives are determined on an annual basis to align with state priorities. Current projects involve: establishment and monitoring of pilot programs to reduce disproportionality in gifted programs, regional meetings with district personnel to discuss current issues of concern, a round of seven regional meetings for parents of the gifted to explore common issues of concern (co-sponsored with the state affiliate, the Florida Association for the Gifted (FLAG)), completion of the revision of the gifted endorsement modules with emphasis on development of on-line delivery options, completion of a set of curriculum frameworks for K-12 gifted learners (also a joint project with FLAG), revision of a state Handbook for Gifted Education, and a spring Institute for district personnel who work with gifted students.
