Reporting Major Areas of Interest

Major Area of Interest credit is recorded on a student’s transcript per the FASTER User Manual formats (Appendix I, T4 – Course). The following Department resources are available to assist school districts identify which majors and courses students intend to utilize.

  • FACTS.org ePEP Course File - This file contains a complete download of ePEP planner information including student demographics, settings, planned courses, and major area of interest (MAI) selections. A new file is available the first Tuesday of every month (in May, the files are provided every Tuesday; files are not provided in August) at NWRDC for authorized users in the Bright Futures Directory, file name OB.DXnn.FACTS.EPEP.COURSES (where ‘nn’ is the school district number).
  • DOE Reconciliation File – This file compares the MAI information in the FACTS ePEP Course file and/or MAI information entered on a student’s transcript and returns the result. For example, if a student planned to take major 6111 in their ePEP, the reconciliation process will look to see if the student took any high school courses approved for major 6111, and returns the result of the comparison. This file is only available a few times a year, typically following when transcripts are sent, and posted at NWRDC in the Bright Futures directory, file name OB.DXnn.FACTS.RECON.Dyyyymm (where ‘nn’ is the school district number, ‘yyyy’ is the calendar year, and ‘mm’ is the calendar month; values of ‘mm’ will be ‘03’, ‘06’, and ‘11’ with the datasets available after the end of March, June, and November).
